You may have read reviews for the Hotel Step which are bad, I do not understand why. The hotel is not in the City Centre, but you should realise that before you go. The tram is close by, and for less than a pound you are in the middle of Prague in 20 minutes, the trams are clean and bright and run every 15 minutes. The hotel is next to a main line station but the windows are double glazed and the noise is minimal. The staff were perfectly amicable and the Barman in the a la carte restaurant/bar charming and helpful. The food was good, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfast was plentiful and typical of the area i.e. sausage, eggs, fruit, cold meats bread and rolls. For the money this hotel is excellent value, if you want to stay in the middle of Prague expect to pay much more.

Some noise from the nearby passing trains as we had to leave the windows open due to the hot weather; also constraction site near hotel where workers start working early morning and making alot of noice. The train station is near may dusturb during the night. 5/6 Storeys stairs must be climbed up to reach the Hotel Step reception, with a piece of luggage and pushchair, it is very exhausting. Long walk to the tram stop I would say about 10/15 mins. Restaurant staff can not speak Engish language but only czech. Had difficulties with terrible breakfast as staff didn't know most of the food. Room doesn't get cleaned properly. Bed is of very poor quality. No tea/coffee making facility in the room. Have been charged for baby milk from the bar. So I won't recommend anyone to stay in Hotel Step. Trust me!

Our request for directions to Hotel Step was ignored by the proprietors, even though we had paid in full. We spent over an hour looking for the place, as the online hotel map was useless. The signposts cater for drivers only.
The hotel is on the outskirts of Prague. Don't be fooled by the 'suburbs' description - the hotel is situated beside a motorway, a noisy railway line and a brothel; however, local pubs are friendly and cheap. You also need to walk up 60-odd steps to reach your destination. Do not expect your room to be ready by 10. We had to wait until 2 p. m.
The facilities offered by the hotel are more expensive than they are in Britain. Go to the local sports centre round the corner (Sports Centrum) for a sauna or some tennis. Do not pay more than 200 CK (£5) for a taxi from the Old Town to Hotel Step. The hotel itself charges 350 CK (£8.75), so flag one down on the street and ask for a price.
The evening drinks and food in the restaurant are expensive and vegetarians are poorly catered for. The breakfast choices are plentiful and suit vegetarians. Choose from several cereals, sausages and cheese. Get there early or you will find there is less choice - food is not well-replenished and you are hurried along. Fruit juice is watered down and there are remnants of the evening meals on the table-cloths.
The best aspects of this hotel are the view and the fantastic chambermaid service. The rooms are clean and small, bright and well-decorated. The mattresses are firm and the pillows soft - perfect. Large windows and good heating make your stay comfortable. The maids come into your room every day, when you are out, doing more than you expect and supplying you with plenty free soap and shampoo - give them a good tip.
I would recommend this hotel to students and young people, as you can make as much noise as you like. (I was a student myself.) If you want a good night's sleep, avoid like the plague.
