Go back every 2/3 years in late September, love it. Have travelled quite a bit, but this place late September is Heaven!! Not for the party goers (which I can be when I want) totally chilling at this time of year. Hire a scooter, the roads are quiet at this time of year, and go up to the old town and beyond, the sights are amazing and there are some gorgeous bays to stop off at. The pool area is quiet at this time of year but so relaxing and whenever we have been the weather as been great. The studios are basic but clean, no complaints, the pool area brill! Take the bus into Kos Town early evening and chill out in the square there, it's good to people watch and have something to eat.

Having just come back from two weeks staying at the Mayflower Hotel in Kefalos, I would definitely recommend it. The complex (consisting of three adjacent blocks, Mayflower I and II and Peros apartments) comprises 24 studio apartments in total. The studios are fairly basic and small, but quite adequate. They are cleaned every other day. The Mayflower is located approx 400 metres back from the main harbour road of Kefalos....not a bad thing because while still handy for the tavernas and bars it is in a much quieter location than the beachfront and is fronted by an orchard on one side and a private apartment on the other. The Mayflower boasts a snack-bar and a smallish swimming pool, which is quite adequate for the needs of the guests. My only slight gripe was that the pool is open to the general public and becomes fairly busy and rather noisy and boisterous during some afternoons. (This may not be such an issue if you don't have a problem with kids making a racket, or go outside the school holidays). Kefalos itself is a fairly quiet resort and has a very British client-base. This means that all the tavernas have large sections of their menus devoted to English as well as Greek food. The resort has a strangely undeveloped feel about it with much of the harbour road still interspersed with numerous bits of undeveloped land in between the bars and tavernas. All in all we really liked it. It's ideal for couples or small family groups wanting a quiet holiday on a beach-front resort in a relaxed atmosphere. There are numerous bars and tavernas, but only two nightclubs in Kefalos and both of them have to turn the music down after midnight!! ....just a final piece of advice. There were a number of brilliant late deals for Kefalos in Summer 2006. That doesn't mean every summer will be the same, but it's worth bearing in mind if you're on a tight budget. Just returned from a fantastic 2 weeks in Kefalos. Very laid back village without the hustle and bustle of larger resorts. Stayed at the Mayflower Peros, which was clean and in a good location. Hired Mopeds from Manolis car hire just down the road and saw most of the island over the 2 weeks. Can recommend the restaurant at Wave beach which is well of the beaten track but well worth it for the sunset alone. Windsurfed at the Fun Systems surf centre where all the staff were friendly and helpful. All in all a great holiday and will definitely be going back for more. Tour Operator: Planetwindsurf
