We stayed at the luxury lodge Kaya Mawa which is situated on the Island of Likoma in the middle of Lake Malawi. This place is absolute paradise. 10 'huts' all with four-poster beds, private decks and sensational views. The food and service was wonderful and swimming in the lake was like swimming in a tropical fish bowl. You can travel to the island by private plane but I highly recommend travelling there by boat, and plane on the way back. The boat is the Ilala, which has been servicing Lake Malawi for the last 50 years and is an incredible trip. Make sure you get a cabin though, otherwise it means sleeping on the deck!
