Bad Service For Five Star Hotel - Anonymous. Date of travel: Jun 2008
The accommodation at the Arabella is fantastic and we received a warm reception, but waited half an hour to get a drink at the bar so finally just left and went to the restaurant. It took 15 minutes for my wine to arrive, which is not on for a five star hotel. My husband ordered Carpaccio to start with and it took ten minutes for the waitron to tell us that the Carpaccio was frozen!! For desert he ordered the cheese platter which arrived with three circular slices of French loaf, no crackers or good quality bread. He requested more bread only to be told there was none left. We complained and got given a few soggy crackers in compensation and the bill came to R800 for two people. The Arabella better get its service and stock orders into tip top shape or a dubious reputation might precede it.

We had a wonderful stay at the Arabella Sheraton in Cape Town, South Africa at the beginning of the month. It was our first time in the country. My wife was attending a conference at the Cape Town International conference center and so we figured this would be perfect as it is pretty much exactly opposite. Definitely an excellent choice. Staff were friendly and highly efficient, the hotel has a great atmosphere and is very well situated to the centre of Cape Town and the V and A Waterfront (shuttle takes you right there). Rooms were superb, comfortable and clean. Excellent breakfast at the hotel and superb dining in Cape Town in general (our favourite was 5flies). Some spectacular views of Table Mountain too. We have started planning a return holiday trip to Cape town as it is a spectacular city, and will most likely stay at the Sheraton again. We also cant wait to explore some of the rest of the country.
