I had to move out of the Palace within hours - Noreen Macbeth. Date of travel: Jul 2007
Booked in to the the Palace Hotel on the 3rd of July, after a long flight and bus journey I was really looking forward to our 5 star hotel - as soon as I stepped into the reception I knew it was not 5 star or even 4 star at best it can only be 3 star and an old 3 star. The carpets on the way to the room were stained and the door had a big gouge were someone had tried to break in. The room was tiny and the bathroom was dirty. Fridge was disgusting. By 11am I had checked out of the hotel and booked into the Mares Hotel with the help of the manager of the Palace, who argreed with all my points and could not have been more helpful. Holidays are very importart to everyone and if you pay £2050 for 2 adults and a child you expect a certain standard. This hotel is 3 star.

I loved the Marmaris Palace, I think everything is really nice and people are really friendly. Although I am Turkish and blonde, the Turkish men are not that bad, they don't look at you and I think it is suited for all ages. We went with 15 people and we really enjoyed it. I am 15 years of age and this was my first visit to Turkey along with my friend, her mum and her mum's friend. It was supposed to be a nice relaxing all-girls, stress-free week in Marmaris. On arrival, the staff were welcoming and we were taken to our room. We had 2 rooms next door to each other for the 2 adults and then myself and my friend. Both rooms were ensuite with a small balcony. However, neither of the rooms were up to 4* standard. Although light and airy, there was no decor and the wardrobe space was very limited.
I feel obliged to warn anybody going to Marmaris, in particular Marmaris Palace and especially anybody travelling with teenagers, about the Turkish men. Unfortunately they are extremely personal and, being blonde myself they tend to aim for the fairhead young women in an inappropriate and unprofessional manner. This lead to my friend and I, both teenagers and fairly fairheaded to feel very uncomfortable in particular in the waiters and photographers presence.
There are signs up everywhere as you go through places like Marmaris and Icmeler saying 'No Hassle' - this puts into perspective how bad the Turkish men really are and Turkey knows they have a problem.
Marmaris itself is not much better. Especially in the heat it is very busy and the shop owners are very pushy and once again the men are much too personal.
I would advise anyone visiting this area of Turkey to go to Icmeler instead. It is much quieter, with pretty beaches. I have not stayed at a hotel in Icmeler but the people are much friendlier on an appropriate level and the men are absolutely fine.
Marmaris Palace has a continuous buffet for every meal, but as there are so many people staying in the hotel, the food is very bad quality and the variety is also poor.
The only people it would be suitable for would be young children as the entertainment is constant for that age and there is of course no harassment for that age group. There is more on offer for the younger children even though it doesnt specify an age, as there should be plenty to do for all age groups.
The reason I have given the Marmaris Palace its 4 marks would be for the location. It is stunning with the beach, pools, Turkish bath facilities (eg facial, hot stone massage etc), views and activities such as pedalos, canoes and an ice skating rink.
However overall, I really would not recommend this hotel to anybody. I stayed there a week and although it was not all bad as my company was fantastic, the hotel itself was unacceptable. Tour Operator: Thomas Cook

This hotel is ok if you go in a large group and can entertain yourselves in the evening otherwise you will get bored.
The kids club is ok but not for young children as the children are allowed to come and go as they please and there is no registration or information provided when your children go to kids club. There is also no security to prevent a non swimmer falling in the pool.
The food was not five star and we went out of season so food was very limited. Breakfast consists of baked tomatoes, five minute boiled eggs (5 hours) and fried frankfurters. There is bread, butter and jam, fruit, cereal and cheese.
Dinner always provided two meat dishes and one fish dish and a vegetarian option. The salad cannot be faulted and there is lots of pickled salad and veg. The hot vegetables are very overcooked.
The drinks are ok and the children have Tang juices, in lemon, orange, strawberry and sour cherry. You can also get beer, wine (which could strip paint), local brandy and sodas.
The room was in need of refurbishment, we had to ask for extra pillows and blankets. The mattress was hard as a board and we asked for four chairs which only just fitted on a balcony which overlooked a bit of waste area with a dumped carpet and some plaster. There were trees beyond that and I think the sea was behind them so we obviously had a sea view room.
The heating in the room was good but the electrics were dangerous and they fused on ocassion.
We experienced a day of torrential rain whilst we were there and the hotel leaked like a sponge and the staff ran around putting out towels to soak up the rain but this turned the hotel into and ice rink.
Talking of ice rink I never saw one but there was a rumour that they should have one at the hotel.
None of the pools or slides were open whilst we were there so I cannot comment on them. The indoor pool was the turkish bath and was around 20ft by 10ft size, but was a hot bath and sauna not really somewhere for children.
The taxis into Marmaris should be around 15lira. Please tell the driver how much you will pay before you get in the car, we forgot to do this and ended up paying a rude driver 30 lira.
The market in Marmaris on a Thursday and Sunday is worth the visit. Also the turkish bath in the hotel is very good.
The service we got from the nurse and doctor was first class as my youngest became ill after the first day.

This is a great place for kids and adults with waterslides and a lovely pool area! I definitely want to go back in the future.
