Czech Republic
If Budweiser is your favourite brew it may be a surprise to discover that it originated in the Czech Republic, the eastern European country famed for its beer, and a lot more besides. Since it emerged from communism a few decades ago, thousands have come to holiday in the Czech Republic and drink in itsmore
Recommendation for events, actions in Prague? - Michele. Date of travel: Apr 2006
As I recently went over to Prague with my friends as a part of my travel trip around Europe I'd like to write a little bit about it. We stayed in Prague only for two days in hotel Julis - is in Wenceslas Square – very central but a little bit hectic area. We got good lastminute deal over the internet at : http://www.aaaahotels.com/ because in February is not season and the rates are very low – might be 50 % off regular season rates . The weather in February was not so good, probably the best time to see Prague is in May or June. After having talked to the receptionist and getting advice we went out to Prague Castle over the Old town square and Charles Bridge. We had great dinner in the restaurant Kolkovna near by Old town Square, I recommend: food delicious. We will definitely come back to Prague for longer. Can anyone recommend any info for events, actions taking place in Prague or best time to visit Prague this year.

Prague is a destination that can accomodate all budgets. On arrival at the airport the shuttle taxi service into the centre is quick and good value or you can travel by public transport for a few pence! The city is full of a variety of good bars and restaurants offering a wide selection of food and drink at reasonable prices - you could probably eat at different places every day of the year. The old city is particularly attractive - I would recommend getting the tram up the hill to the Palace - admiring the amazing grandeur of the architecture and walking down back across Charles Bridge to the Town Square. There is an abundance of cultural entertainment available - from classical concerts to jazz bars. For a good value evening try the Black Light Theatre. Tour Operator: Cresta

The Czech Republic, especially Prague, has become the new 'in' destination in Europe. Those who want to go there, however, still don't know much about what's available, so do a little online research first and you will be pleasantly surprised and even more eager to make the trip! The Prague hotels and accommodation Directory has pictures, descriptions and prices. Also very helpful is Czechlinks.com, a directory of travel related webpages.

The literature claimed Prague was the 80's and 90's version of Paris from the 1920's. Not quite with the times, but full of character and without the tourists of other major destinations. While Prague is certainly a beautiful city with sites such as St George's Bridge and the Castle overlooking the city, the real gems of this country are a train ride and bus ride away. Cesky Krumlov, one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to - has a quaint feel to it and a rumbling curiosity of it's inhabitants to those who happen upon their hidden treasure. Brno is a less travelled city that seems to welcome travellers a bit more, yet retains a bigger city feel. Altogether, Czech Republic is a wonderful place, a great destination - a welcome addition to the EU, but a place where one shouldn't expect much variation from the rest of the Western European countries, other than cheaper beer and easily found Absinthe.
