Skiing in Chamonix is the best, but slopes are far apart and bus service is chaotic. Hire a car is my advice. The best skiing is above Agentiere, which takes around 30 mins to get to by bus, but once you are there you have access to the best and largest skiing in Chamonix. The Chamonix nightlife is good but getting expensive. Chamonix is great for weekend ski trips as it's only an hour from Geneva - it's easy to book an apartment and get a cheap flight if you book in advance.

Chamonix is a great village for the entire family to visit. Although it can be crowded at times - there is a general bonhomie that smooths over the bits where you need to queue for a bit! In fact the next time someone tells you the French are haughty send them off to Chamonix for a re-education. It is really close to Geneva - and it is easy to transfer from there. You do need wheels - the best option is to have a full service company like Nomadic ski who will anticipate your every need and cart you about. The town is expensive - but the ski-ing is affordable. Chamonix is simply a fantastic place to go skiing. The views alone are worth the trip, not to mention the massive array of skiing available - ranging from the tree lined skiing of Les Houches to the legendary Vallee Balnche. Chamonix has some of the best skiing in Europe, particularly off-piste. But not the ski areas are miles apart and a car is essential if you dont want to rely on the erratic buses. Best skiing is in Argentiere - 15 mins drive up the valley. Also be aware the weather can be bad - its rained the last two times I've been to Chamonix and there's not much to do other than skiing. Wild walabies is the place to party, packed full of young ski bums. Dicks t-bar is a good nightclub. also lots of good restaurants.

Chamonix is an amazing place to go on a ski vacation! A group of 12 of us (ages 27-30) went together in February, 2004. We had the most amazing week in the French Alps. We used a ski chalet company called Freshtraxxx wich is run by a group of 20 something ski bums, but let me tell you what a quality high class group they are! For about $1K USD per person we had transportation, accomodations, ski passes and breakfast and dinner cooked in the chalet for us! I am telling you, the beauty alone is worth going to Chamonix for. The skiing is amazing, the town is cool with lots of fun little bars and restaraunts to checkm out. I definitely reccommend a ski vacation in Chamonix! Tour Operator: Freshtraxxx
