Victoria Bay
Hugo Firx. Date of travel: Apr 2005
Victoria Bay is an ideal weekend break from Cape Town as long as you don't mind the five-hour drive. Victoria Bay is just outside George on the way to Wilderness, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay - its a tiny little bay down a very steep winding road and is a magnet for surfers. Water is warm by Cape Town standards and sea is relatively safe to swim in. It's also a famous dolphin spotting spot and we saw lots when we were there - its easiest to see them if you go the the lookout to the right of Victoria bay. They is meant to be a similar bay a few kms before George called Herold's Bay - an old fishing village, unspoilt but more Afrikaans. Victoria bay has a small restaurant but the beach and a few houses just behind. For our holiday we stayed at Sea Glimpse, 1km up the hill. They are much nicer than the houses but not so close and they are appartments rather than houses. Tour Operator: Independent
