Christmas in Gran Canaria - dunning family. Date of travel: Jun 2008
We went to Puerto Rico Christmas day for two weeks. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The Amordorres beach is great, also the main beach. We found it reasonable in prices. We liked the idea of not getting haunted by timeshare. The nightlife was brill especially the Tropicana pub and the dicey Riley's bar. Very hilly but taxis are cheap enough. We are going back again in June 2008 on a lower level. we love the place.

Disappointed with Puerto Rico - JT. Date of travel: Dec 2007
Puerto Rico has changed a lot since I last went and I don't think I would go back again, the locals are very rude and the whole place appears dirty, even McDonalds was filthy. If you go the Europa Centre, try "flicks" it is English run and the food and service is excellent, there is a restaurant called "little italy" sometimes you can have a bit of a wait if they are busy but the food is excellent and for a drink try "the tavern" we had some great nights in here.

Puerto Rico - the same - Maria. Date of travel: Dec 2007
Loved Puerto Rico since 2002. Went back each year. Went back December 2007 and truthfully it is a bit too much the same. Espically the Irish bars. Same faces, same songs, same gags!!! And prices are a rip off (espically Diceys) Don't think we will go back this year, if we go back in 5yrs time I am sure it will be the same anyway!!! All inclusive holidays are the way to go as you know what you are spending.

Don't go to the Aqua Park in Puerto Rico - Grancanman27. Date of travel: Dec 2007
Do not go to the aqua park a complete rip off £90 for an ice cold watered, shoddy, zero safety facility. If you are with your family looking at the billboard for this aqua park and say "this looks really good, what do you say kids?" DONT GO! It's rubbish, save your money for drinks and food around the pool at marina suites :). The rest of the island is amazing, in particualr the marina suites.

We went on a buggy tour with BUGGY KING who are located across from the taxi rank at the commercial centre in Puerto Rico... we were involved in an accident up in the mountains during the tour... the tour operators treated us totally unprofessionally they did not even have a first aid kit and wrapped us up in kitchen roll. Unbelievable they would not call an ambulance as they did not want the call to be logged onto a report. They refused to give us their insurance details. Have never been treated so badly in my life. Would strongly advise that nobody uses the services of these cowboys... do not use Buggyking

Go to the Harp bar in Puerto Rico!!!It's the best crack you will have on your holiday. The Harp Bar booze cruise was ths highlight of our holiday. Steve York is a class of his own. The place to eat is a restaurant called Bubbles. The food was fantastic. Watch out for Mr Bean!! M&M's bar is a must. The prices are the cheapest in Spain. I'll be going back.

The scenery was amazing and I loved the beach, especially the Amadores Beach. But I also suggest getting a taxi there which was about €2.70. Cheap! Also Maspalomas is lovely.

There are a number of shops selling low cost, top brand, cameras near to the dive school at the side of the harbour. They seem to be all owned by Asians. Do not buy a camera as this is a scam. When you find out what you have "actually" bought and you take it back the problems start. You find youself in a very intimidating situation. As for getting what you payed for or a refund you've got no chance.

Puerto Rico Was Awesome!! - Janette Codling. Date of travel: Sep 2007
Puerto Rico was brilliant. There was a lot of steps going from the hotel to the town itself but a taxi was only €2 so that was ok. There was men trying to make you buy things (do not buy) everything they sell is fake!! But I bought sunglasses because they were calling me - they were very nice glasses!! Hahaha!! The night entertainment was excellent....The Guinness was brilliant. Me, my mother and sister had some laughs in there!! And also Snoopy Club (free shots all round!!!) Also many other clubs too. The thing was if you didn't want to stay out late then when you went to bed at your hotel, the music in Puerto Rico don't stop until about 5am!! But me mam and sister stayed out until then!! The best place to eat is San Migels!! The food there is excellent... Me, my sister and my mother loved it there. There was also drag queens walking about they were funny and fantastic!!Cant wait to go back!!!!

Puerto Rico is the best part of Gran Canaria!! - Janette Codling. Date of travel: Sep 2007
The location in Puerto Rico from Castillo Del Sol is fine... Has quite a lot of steps but it's ok going down but a nightmare coming back so we always used to get a taxi on the way back! It was only €2 which is good! The owners of the cafies and pubs would always try and drag you into them haha! You have just got to say NO! People always try and sell you things too for too much money because the things they sell on streets are fake! Hahaha! :) The people in Gan Cnaria are different to Spanish, they are not so loud! I think anyway! But they are all very nice people and welcoming! The women that braid our hair are all very bubbly and nice too! Well in your hotel you'll have holiday reps and please book the Aqualand Park in Maspalomas, it's awesome!

Puerto Rico is for all age groups, the commercial centre they are very pushy but I suppose that's their job. Europa centre smaller version of the commercial great for kids, some nice restaurants, Yates Disco bar is good, nice seating area outside, great service. We got nice picture taken in there! Well worth it. Down at the harbour is Maggies Irish Bar (crock of Gold) nice little pub overlooking the harbour, nice food, entertainment most nights, quizzes for the kids or bingo. We got a boat trip to Mogan, nice area, 20 minutes on the ferry. Overall it was a great holiday. I did not want to come home. Weather was just brilliant 40ºC -46ºC degrees every day. People were so friendly and helpful. Be aware if you have disposable camera and you want to get them printed. Look around for the best deals because we got ripped off. We got charged €70 for the print off of 3 diposable cameras at the first shop down at the harbour.

Puerto Rico is a great place, entertainment every night, Tango and La Bolera the best places to go, Tango is a great nightclub that is free. La Bolera is the best Restaurant you have ever tasted. There is a stage right outside the Restaurant, so you can sit and have your meal while being entertained by the magicians, dancers, drag acts, gymnastics and acrobats.

Where can I start? Gorgeous isn't the word! Puerto Rico is the place I have probably spent the best week of my life in. It has everythin a great holiday has to offer, lovely beach, great food, clubs and a great atmosphere. The people here are just so friendly, felt like I'd known them for years when I chatted to them! Us lot mainly went into the Jokers club, loved every minute whilst I was in there but there are so many bars you can go in and just has exactly the same atmosphere. The weather was great, topped 26ºC every day and not a drop of rain. We even went in the sea at 5 o'clock in the morning and we still felt warm. Says it all really hey?! The only thing that bothered me a little was the people trying to make you eat in their restaurants, it can get a little tedious. I strongly recommend Puerto Rico to 16-25 year-olds as it has everything for them. If you haven't been there yet then go because Puerto Rico, trust me, is the place to be! We are all coming back in September we enjoyed it so much, so till then Puerto Rico, Adios!
Best Holiday yet!! - Kerry. Date of travel: Jun 2007
Puerto Rico is one of the best holidays I've been on. The place is lovely and our apartments were nice too. We lived in the Aquacanis Apts which were kept clean and the pool was great. The beach was good too but I prefered the Amadores beach which is man-made, so the sand doesn't stick to you as much. I would also recommend going to Aqualand which is in Maspalomas. It is a massive water park and is well worth the money. Was definitely the best day of my holiday. The Europa Centre at the top of Puerto Rico wasn't really up to much but there is a nice English restaurant. The Commercial Centre at the bottom however was fab. There are lots of restaurants, bars and clubs. Would also recommend going to the Las Brasas steakhouse-the steak is brilliant. If you do visit Puerto Rico you have to go to Harleys nightclub. It is absolutely minted. The dancers are amazing, and quite sexy. heehee. I would definitely go back, especially for Harleys, YeeHaaa!!
Puetro Rico is the best - Sharon. Date of travel: May 2007
Puerto Rico has very good restaurants in the commercial centre, especially the restaurant San Miguel only €6.50 for a huge portion. Most meals are this price and really tasty. Don't care much for the beach at Puerto Rico. Ammodores much better about 15 minute walk from the revoli or 5mins in taxi.

Where are everybody's bad comments coming from? Puerto Rico is the best place to stay because it's so central but you don't have to say there all day! Go in to the mountains, hire a car, live a bit. Go to the markets in Arguinigin and Mogan, eat in more spanish restaurants. It's like another world over there. Yes, Puerto Rico has changed from years ago but it certainly has in England! But still gives you the bug to go back so much so we used to live over there and are going to next year. Wouldn't look back, much slower more relaxed way of living, even with 2 children!

When I turned up in Puerto Rico I just thought 'wow'. It was lovely. I stayed in the Omar Apartments, they were great. The people were nice and the apartments were very clean. It had a nice clean swimming pool and a bar and a snack bar. The beach was great and it was a good break. The weather was fab. I went to most of the bars and the restaurants were nice. I ate at one called Las Vegas. The steak was lovley. There is load of activities, water park, mini golf and plenty more to do. I got my holiday for a great deal and am definitely coming back next year. Tour Operator: co-optravel

We been twice now, had a real good time. My advice would be to be on your gaurd, my partner got ripped off. Never pay asking price for any sovieners ect. Don't be affraid to explore, we been all over the island, plenty of nice places to visit. We visted Melanores, windy but a little quiter, nice for shopping, labels galore. Holiday world a bit disapointing, fun for 4yrs - 7/8yrs. However great bowling place. Eden, not fantastic but comfortable, good location, for new Europa centre, we went to the Irish Cottage bar new years eve, great view for fireworks had some good entertainers too. Good market on a friday at Port de Morgan, very bizzy, nice scenery too. Tour Operator: Thomson

Puerto Rico is gorgeous, has the weather all year round which is brilliant! The centre of Puerto Rico is literally a 5 minute taxi ride down which costs no more than 3 euros and we tipped in that too. The centre is full of friendly people and has bars for the older visitors and more funky clubs for the younger people. We enjoyed a quiet drink in the Cactus bar with Paco who is hilarious and makes everyone feel welcome along with the gorgeous Alex behind the bar. We started our nights off there every night before moving on to a restuarant. Only thing I would criticise here would be the people outside of the resturants grabbing you to get you to eat at their's! Very abrupt but harmless. Clubs are great I recommend Bora Bora bar, all the staff there look after you brilliantly and the fit josh, and Covent Garden is great too really lively! Basically if you get the chance to go .... TAKE IT!!!!!!!

Can't get enough of Puerto Rico, it has everything from MacDonalds to more up market restaurants. The shops are great with lots of bars and clubs. There are many bars that are made up specifically for the Scots, the Irish, the Welsh and the English with many more themed bars ie Celtic, Rangers, Man Utd and more.
Great nightlife with lots of friendly people.
Weather is always hot and comfortable with little wind.
Going back to Gran canaria in April 07, cant wait so should be good lol

Puerto Rico with its hot Sunshine nearly 40 degrees every day phew! The place is suitable for families, couples and singles. It has most things on offer. We visited a couple of beaches, many bars and restaurants. Oscars restaurant near the marina served us a nice meal, and below at Hawaii bar we had a hundred or so cocktails. The commercial centre in town was so close, and taxi fares were always 2.50 euros and no more, no matter what time of day or night. The ground floor of the centre was shopping, middle floor an abundance of restaurants and upstairs lots and lots of different bars, nice steak at El Torro, fantastic Irish bar Scruffy Murphys, and we always finished the night off at Snoopys who has a nice sexy german bouncer who we nicknamed MR SEXY. The centre was compact so ladies feel safe, and they have plenty of security. There are plenty of watersports, and boat trips and there are fishing trips for those that want to fish. Hiring a car is from approx 30 euro per day. Hell I could go on forever but you must vist this place and it certainly grows on you, I can't wait to go back. Anita

Puerto Rico, probably the best place for a holiday in the world, for anyone - Craiggggg. Date of travel: Jun 2006
I've been to Puerto Rico about 9 times now in my life. I can't say how much I love Puerto Rico. I've been there for the past 6 years and loved every minute of it. The hotel we stay at has everything, 4 different hotels for you to explore, luxury, its own private beach and harbour, its own island, two supermarkets, taxis on tap to get you into Puerto Rico (3 euro away), arcade and its own shopping mall, and plenty of REALLY nice restaurants. Puerto Rico itself is brilliant. The commercial center is split into two parts.. the bottom floor and the top floor, front and back.. bottom floor is mainly shops, supermarkets, perfume electrical, clothes, bags, arcades, souvenir shops.. the upstairs is mainly restaurants and bars.. the top deck front area is the more lively part. Theres Bora Bora.. many a great night had there, Snoopys, Harleys and Linekars are just a few, then you have Jokers on the ground, probably my favourite club in the world. Normally drinks are 6 euro for which you get two. The back part of the top is the more quiet bars absolutely spot on for families. M n M bar is probably the most packed and best bar around, drinks are cheap and the measures are spot on. Reccomend a restaurant on the bottom, its about halfway down on the left .. always got a queue outside it and always packed.. think it may be called El Trabol but I'm not sure.. el trabol is a good restaurant there as well. Check out the Chinese and Indian all you can eat restaurants at the back too.. I'm going to Kavos this year, but I can't understand why Im not going to Puerto Rico... I sure will miss the palce. And you've got the Europa center at the top, which is also a good place for families, its got shops, bars the lot, but is a lot quieter, theres also a place there that puts on cracking shows, got me into the Beatles lol. Theres Mcdonalds, Crazy golf, a beach, harbour, waterpark.. anything else ask.. I think I know everything about the place lol, slim_craig_e@hotmail.com. Tour Operator: various

Puerto Rico - Liz & Craig McDiarmid - Old Bonhill. Date of travel: Apr 2006
The only decent restaurant that was selling real steak and not hippo was Churchills - recommended to me and my fiance by the ten golfers from Fife - not forgeting Toby their mascott!!! What a gorgeous place to go with the person you are falling in love with - sun, gorgeous sea, and lots of lovely palm trees :-) Tour Operator: Thomas Cook

I liked Puerto Rico because it catered for all age groups although it could be a bit tricky for the less mobile but there were loads of cabs flying around. The only downside was the number of tours in the day and people trying to get you into their bars and restuarants at night , but you just have to be firm with them and walk away quickly. The beach was very good. Only 7 Euros for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella. Took the ferry to Morgan - very nice and quiet. Maybe too quiet. Nice for a day out though.

WARNING!!! I don't mean to put down previous reviewers, but this resort can (must) be summed up as brash, noisy and full of concrete. It obviously suits many but if it's peace and quiet you want-forget it. Unless you're lucky, the beach is a good trek away, there is constant building work and the loud thump of disco music does not ease until at least 3.a.m. As I said, it might suit those with "ants in thier pants"! Not sure where people get their negative comments from. This place pulls me back every year, weather mainly but the resort is fabulous for familys and the older generation alike with many trips out of Puerto Rico..... This place is built on a hillside so if you dont like hills then go to Holland instead!!!

Puerto rico, Gran Canaria. Fabulous destination. If you really enjoy the sun and the hot weather this is the place to go. The harbour and the beach are also brilliant. I enjoyed everything about this destination apart from the bald guy who sells bags on the market. Be warned as he was rude to my husband and myself because we did not want his goods. After speaking to other guests they also had the same offensive rude comments from him. Tour Operator: Thomson

Fantastic resort - Arthur Jennings and family. Date of travel: Aug 2005
Puerto Rico is a fantastic resort that can offer something for everyone, from kids to grandads! If you don’t believe me ask my Dad and my daughter. It is our family favourite for holidays. There are so many excursions and things to do and see that even six months would not be enough to get through it all. The Europa Centre on the hill is the place to go to try all sorts of amazing restaurants with surprisingly good prices. We can recommend Wellingtons for delicious steak. We loved the beach, Amadores, which is a fair walk but very scenic. It is actually a man-made beach and is kept spotlessly clean. The water park behind the commercial centre was great fun and we went there several times. I can recommend this resort for a first class family holiday. Tour Operator: Airtours

Great for family - Michelle. Date of travel: Aug 2005
Puerto Rico is a great place for all the family. The staff at the hotel was great, a good rep too. The beach was great especially the beach Amadores and only a cheap taxi ride away. Good water parks and animal park. The bus journey was a little bit too much, it was hot. The only thing i didnt like was everyone pushed menus in your face to get you in their restaurants, but there was one great Chinese on entering the shopping mall, it was all you could eat. The kids thought it was great, the food was lovely. Keep away from the pushy people trying to get you to go to Gran Anfi hotel. Its free but you have to walk around for about 3 hours until you get to use resort facilities. Its nice but dont go there. Great hols. Tour Operator: Thomson

Was in Puerto Rico for two weeks had a nice and relaxing time with my kid, the weather and hotel was great not just for me but the kids as well. Plenty of things to do at night and during the days, you can relax by the pool or go to one of the beaches. Went to the commercial centre most nights wit the kids plenty of live shows on in many of the bigger bars. Food was average in most; the kids menus are really poor. Found one good restaurant in the centre called Churchill’s went about five times and the food was great for me and the kids. Also went to Oscars and a couple more on the beach front. Would recommend Puerto Rico if your looking for a relaxing time make sure your staying out of the valley cause I could tell it gets loud with all the bars open till late. Tour Operator: Airtours

We went to Gran Canaria last June, and the weather was fantastic, in the 80's most days. You can spend time relaxing on the beach or browsing the many shops during the day. At night there are lots of restaurants to sample. We particulary enjoyed the Chinese buffet restuarants and the steak houses are great. The night life is brill, with family bars and also lively bars and clubs.... Rumours fun bar is great and also Casa Locas. If you enjoy a laugh go to the lady boy shows (I think that says it all). If you enjoy aqua parks stay away from Puerto Rico's and head to Maspalomas aqua park. You can make it as fun or relaxing as you like. Our hotel was lovely and had entertainment around the pool in the day.. don't forget your bingo dabber! Don't be fooled by the men in the street doing games. They make it look easy by letting people win (who of course we found out later were all part of the act). They then proceed to rob your holiday money....£70 they took from my purse, so be on your guard and walk straight past them. A great place to go if you like crazy golf...enough to make you go crazy! We will definitely go back in the future. Tour Operator: My Travel

Puerto Rico is a lovely resort - Christine Scott. Date of travel: May 2005
Puerto Rico is a lovely resort, especially where we were in the fabulous Marina Suites. This was our second holiday there in 6 months, they are amazing! They are built less than a year, and the apartments and bars etc have a nautical theme. The block overlooks the marina with fantastic balcony views. The pool is the best ever, very dramatic, and flows on to the rocks then the sea, with decking and seating at the rocks. There are jaccuzzis outside, and you get supplied with beach towels as required. A must in Puerto Rico is Picasso restaurant. It is at the top of the mountain, and only costs a couple of pounds from the bottom in a taxi. It is truly magnificent, with a varied menu of such delicacies as mussels, sole, steaks and prawns. The proprietor is the wonderfulJjuan who is very John Cleese, but the atmosphere is great, enhanced by the fab Claire from Birmingham. The decor is Picasso themed with some wonderful reproductions. You have to go!! You will never eat anywhere else in Puerto Rico! Moderately priced, but also with an excellent choice of fine wines, the bon homie is worth the slightly extra cost in comparison to the "chicken and chip" joints. It really has become a big part of our regular visits to Puerto Rico to visit Picassos almost every night. 10 out of 10 for both the Marina Suites and the Picasso restaurant. puerto rico is a lovely resort, the first thing that will strike you is the cliff top position, the hotel puerto azul is about half way up the cliff but it is right next to a set of stairs leading to one on the beaches and a further 2 minutes walk will take you to the main variety of shops, bars and resturants. the hotel is situated half way up the cliff and about a minute up the hill is a small variety of shops and a few bars if you want a quieter night!! i would recommend visiting port morgan which is about 30 min boat ride away but is well worth seeing . The first thing that strikes you about Puerto Rico are the cliffs, so if you are going to get about on foot you better be fit. Luckily taxis are fairly cheap though. Apart from that it is a lot like Blackpool except, of course, it is a great deal warmer and you even get to see the sun. Can you believe in February we had temperatures in the 30s. There are so many British bars and restaurants, most selling good old chicken and chips, steak and chips and all the familiar things from home. There are some options like Chinese and Indian as well. The only thing that reminds you that you are on the islands is that you get pestered by people trying to pull you into their establishment, which gets a bit annoying.
